NEWS SNIPPETS

- If any of our trading partners still have rings under their eyes from the last year's economic woes, news such as the following article should provide cause for some cheer. Following a trend that seems to be sprouting up all over the place, Mexico's Americo Movil announced a 50% increase in quarterly profits, with some staggering numbers. Seems there are other ways than the powder trade of collecting cash under the sombrero.

- In a busy market, manufacturers are forever thinking up ever-more innovative ways of bringing new products to the public's attention. Over at Samsung Brazil, Kim and Jorge, the marketing department, thought of a brilliant idea to launch the brightly-coloured Corby - why not have the mother of all paint fights? It seems the stung drew the attention as planned, although the Sao Paolo fire department were reportedly not that very happy at having been called upon to hose this lot off.

SOFTWARE AND WEB TIPS
If, like the greatest proportion of Geekville, you can't always stand Microsoft products and how they work with the standard-issue computer crash extensions, you would have been investigating alternatives for your day to day requirements. Of course, our readers who are already in the Mac camp, have few or none of these issues. The first port of call on our suggested tour of alternative destinations could be the good folks at Mozilla. The Firefox browser offers an alternative experience to the ho-hum Internet Explorer, and their mail client, Thunderbird, is simply on another planet compared to Outlook. Both programs are fully customizable and extendable, meaning that you should never ever run out of bells and whistles. Moreover, they are stable and..... wait for this .... totally free!

TYTAN GROUP NEWS
- After a whistle stop tour to Harare, Zimbabwe, we are pleased to announce that we are poised to strike a deal to establish an associate office in this market that offers exciting trading prospects. Trading conditions in this market, which won't win any prizes as having always presented the most stress-free trading environment, are now steadily improving, and in our view warrants the allocation of some resources.

Roots of Youth - We are passionate about our business, but also passionate about out other activities as well. Apart from our interests in the sporting world, we also love music, like all right-thinking people, in our view, should. We are fortunate enough to be closely involved with two of South Africa's most exciting bands, and this week, there is news from both camps:
* Those amongst our readers who could remember the stirring sounds of Clout's "Substitute" that shot up the charts all over the world in the late '70's (don't worry, we won't be revealing ages at all), will be pleased to know that Cindy Alter, the vocalist who achieved world fame with that band, has teamed up with ex Ballyhoo front man Stewart Irving in South Africa to form Alter Irving. Check out their website to read more about this outfit and listen to some of their soul-stirring numbers.
* Young South African rock outfit Roots of Youth are steadily playing themselves into the consciousness of the South African music industry. Their video is currently the most popular of the Doritos Be Heard competition. Here is an invitation to check out the video, rate it, and if you like it, do remember to vote for them once voting starts on 2 November 2009.
